Is Publishing Your Blog to Kindle Worth the Time?

Since more and more readers are buying Kindles,  why not make your blog available on the Kindle device? It's an easy (and free) way to punch one more hole in your "exposure" belt, especially if you already have an audience who love to visit your blog.

S0 how do you publish your blog on Kindle?  It's so simple!  Go to Kindle Publishing and sign up for a free account. Once your blog goes live, (48-72 hours later, although mine only took 24) whenever you publish a new post, your blog feed is updated and the newly published post is sent to the user’s Kindle device.

When you set up your blog for publishing, Kindle Publishing will  set a monthly subscription price for your blog, (my blog is priced at 99 cents).  When readers subscribe to your blog you will receive a 30% royalty.  You may not make enough to pay your child's way through college, but something's better than nothing, right?

You can easily promote your Kindle blog by placing Kindle Chicklet (if you have an Amazon Associates account) on your blog or in your posts.   (See mine at the end of this post.) The chicklet will  also allow you to receive referral fees for qualifying Amazon purchases.
It will take you only a few minutes to set your blog up for publishing, and again - its free.  Any opportunity to increase exposure, credibility, and traffic to your work is worth it when it doesn't cost any anything. And a few extra dollars would be too.

Need a step-by-step walk through?  Just click here.

F - R- Double E - The New "Four Letter Word"

~

In the world of writing and ebook marketing, has the word FREE become a new four letter word? Warping our price expectations as readers, and cheapening our work as authors? I can say for myself, this free thing is turning into a double edged sword. Maybe.
So what had happened was . . .
I recently read two FANTASTIC books by Adrienne Thompson. Enjoyed them immensely. (Click the image to the right to peruse her 5-star reviews) Both were free downloads that I'd obtained a few months back when she ran a campaign. Now as much as I enjoyed her work, and have no reservations of reading her third title, guess what was stopping me? You guessed it - it wasn't free.

So I know what you're thinking - it had to be priced at almost a million dollars since I was hesitant about purchasing it. Of course not. It was a measly $1.99.  Far less than the price of a cuppa coffee, and would last longer too!  Not to mention more enjoyable. And I just can't make it myself at home.

I had to slap myself when I realized why I wasn't tapping the "1-Click" purchase button. What is wrong with me for thinking like that? I was slow to spend 2 bucks on a book that I KNOW I will enjoy?  Shame on me! Once I had this epiphany, I did PURCHASE Adrienne's third title. And guess what? It didn't break the bank, or send my home in foreclosure. I still have enough to get a cup of expensive coffee if I want to . . . or buy another book by another great author.

I don't know about this FREE thing . . . is it doing more damage than good? Is it turning us into Kindle Hoarders?  Free just might be the new four-letter word in town.

I think I'll go wash my mouth out with soap.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Reading - Lisa's Dress

~

Looking for some Easy-Like-Sunday-Morning reading?
Here's an excerpt from Lisa's Dress - a short story.

Normally Will did his own gym laundry; always had. But for some reason I thought I'd do it for him. I dug past a weight belt, a pair of fingerless gloves, his iPod, and a combination lock to pull out a couple pairs of shorts, a dingy tee, and two stained sweat towels. When I tugged at the towels, I caught site of the box of Trojan Magnums. It wasn't the presence of the condoms that stunned me, because I'd seen them in his bag before, as they had been there from the time we dated. I'd believed that Will was true to me and we were exclusive, but I knew he had a past and was glad to see that he was responsible and cared enough about himself to protect himself. We'd used condoms occasionally while we dated, but once I got pregnant with Nikki, we stopped using them all together, even after Nikki's birth. I knew exactly how many condoms were left in his bag, in a little black box, wrapped in gold foil. Seven. Each time I randomly checked for no other reason besides I knew they existed, there'd always been seven. So I was taken aback that morning when I went to do his laundry, peeked in the box and only found three...

How Great Books Get Started

You ever have a dream that's too real to be crazy but too crazy to be real?

It clearly reveals something so dreadful that you hope it was just an awful dream?

You wake up hot and near a sweat if not sweating already then stare up at the ceiling and think about the details of the movie you just saw playing in your head.

There's nothing symbolic, nothing strange, nothing to figure out  - just a good ol' straight forward revelation.

It's too clear to simply dismiss or chalk it up to a late night donut covered in pink icing and sprinkles.

So you silently pray, "Okay God - what's the deal with that? Are you serious?"

But you feel like He just showed you what the deal was, so there's no real reason to ask for more clarity.

Put simply, it just is what it is . . .  even though you don't want it to be.

So you grab a journal and a pen to jot down the details before you forget them, and while you're writing, you think to yourself, "hey . . . this would make a great book."

Yeah . . . I just woke up from one of those.

The wheels are turning. Both in my reality and in my imagination.

That's how great books get started.

While I work on that, check out this EXCELLENT book I read just yesterday and it's only $.99!

Are you on track to reach your goals for the year? Ascalendar2 for me, I am diligently pressing toward mine.  Things are quite busy, and I am ever grateful for your readership and support.

Thank You!

I'm currently working on my next novel release - A Fool and Her Honey - sharing the love lives of four different women who vow to never again play the fool for love. This novel is taking me on quite a ride as I collect a few heartfelt stories from a few phenomenal women (and men) who have given me permission to loosely base my characters and their experiences from their actual lives. I can't thank them enough!  Pray that I finish it on time and look for its release in the upcoming months!

You see, she has this urge to spend, spend, and spend whenever designer shoes, clothes, and items are around. On top of that, she is so infatuated with her shoes that she categorizes men after shoes! Spoonin' for Valentine's Day - Did You See the Size of that Rock??

~

“Show me that rock girl,” Sydney grinned, then winked seductively. With a giggle I placed my hand into his; he kissed the backside then centered it on his crotch and I began fondling.

“Mmm,” he moaned. “Yeah, that’s it. Work that thing, baby.”

We’d played ‘show me the rock’ eight other times since he’d dressed my finger with his commitment. I’d show him the rock on my finger and he would show me the one in his pants. Once I got him to full attention, we would find somewhere to pull over and get our freak on. Didn’t matter where; sometimes it was right on the side of the road, as long as one of us kept our eyes open just in case a police cruiser rolled by. Other than that, every other driver on the highway was too busy trying to get to where they were going to pay much attention to us.

The first time we played, we made sure Casey was asleep then turned on a narrow little dirt road between some corn stalks, which was the perfect place for me to sit on the hood of the car, open my legs and show him how much I was looking forward to being his wife. For this round, I got on my knees turned towards the driver’s seat while he stood in the passenger door behind me, gripped my hips and laid his pipe. Woooo! I loved this game! It only took a couple of minutes per session but the risquéness made it so enjoyable. It was gonna be one of the things we did to keep our sex life hot and spicy once we tied the knot.

Who Needs Barnes and Noble Anyway? - Team Amazon!

I've seen and read articles all over the place about Barnes and Noble's recent decision to no longer stock Amazon produced titles (or something like that). Some are saying that B&N is making a huge mistake, cutting of their nose to spite their face and/or committing business suicide. Personally, my feelings wouldn't be hurt if Team Amazon takes over and snuffs them out.

Clay and I at Borders
Sure, as an author and reader - thus lover of books, how can I resist a bookstore full of . . . well books! Then add on a cafe charging ridiculous prices for a cup of coffee and an over-sized cookie or cup of soup and ahhhh a book lover's heaven-on-earth for sure, right? I mean, after all - I actually got married at a bookstore!

Well as an author - my local Barnes and Noble has never shown much regard for me:
  • Despite me living right here in the area.
  • Despite me selling books hand over fist less than a block away at Borders
  • Despite me trying to book signings (while they did let me sign there ONE time . . . right beside another author)
  • Despite me providing bag stuffers for their customers to promote my signing (they sat on the Community Relations manager's desk until the day of my signing, then she handed them back to me.)

I could go on, but you get the picture. They just haven't really been key in my writing/publishing career. As a matter of fact - I can go in there right now and not find a single copy of anything I've been blessed to have in print (both self-published and traditionally published.)

Sooo . . . uh . . . if they want to jump off a proverbial bridge and meet their demise, my thoughts are "just say your prayers first."

With that said - I think Jeff Bezo and Team Amazon should open up (drum please) Kindle Cafes!  (loud cheering from the crowd!)  Now I will admit that I haven't thought this venture through -  it just popped into my head earlier today, and I'm sure Mr. Jeff has a whole team of experts that could figure out the logistics.

In my mind - a Kindle Cafe would be like a bookstore with no books (well maybe just a few), but only super cushy chairs, and a coffee bar with pastries and snacks, discussion tables, and rooms for Book Club meetings, and auxiliary rooms where authors could hold book release parties and special author events. There would be a retail portion of the Kindle Cafe where patrons could get booky and writery stuff like journals, coffee mugs, pencils, and of course Kindles and wearables with Team Amazon printed on the front. And don't forget free wi-fi and a giant sized Kindle Fire for the Kid's Corner, where a Kindle Cafe staff member could touch-and-read books to kids.

Oh gosh!  If there were a Kindle Cafe near me instead of  a (rolling my eyes) Barnes and Noble, I'd surely camp out there in my Team Amazon hooded sweatshirt and a pair of jeans. And I might not ever go home.

I liked the idea so much, I found Jeff Bezo's email and pitched the idea. Of course I let him know that if he wanted to reward me with cash (or feature me on Amazon's home page - or put all of my books in the first 12 best seller slots - just in case he needed some reward options) for coming up with such a fantastic idea that I would not be offended. I left him my phone number so he could call at his leisure. I'm going to keep my cell phone near by just in case!

I'm Team Amazon Baby!
