I Would Leave a Comment on Your Blog BUT . . .

I visit other people's blogs. Really I do. However, I generally don't comment. Not that I don't want to . . . sometimes.
So why don't I? Glad you asked.
Here are my top three reasons.

Number 3
Your post is too freaking long, so I don't read it all.
Unless it's a book excerpt, cut to the chase. Get to the point. Tell me what you told me you were gonna tell me in your post title so that I can read it, enjoy it, comment on it and get on with my day. Please.

Number 2
The font is too tiny. I don't like having to pull my laptop on my chest to read what you've posted . . . even when it's good stuff. Let's not even talk about white letters on light grey backgrounds and the like.

My NUMBER 1 reason for not commenting on blogs:
My email address is required. That's an automatic click off for me. Why do I have to leave my email address to leave a comment? If you want my email address, do what the rest of us have to do, beg and bribe for it. I'm not just gonna fork it over to you. It's too much of a hassle, not to mention you might start sending me stuff. I don't want to subscribe to your newsletter right now; I just want to leave a comment. That's all. That's it.

Okay.  I'm done. Now leave a comment about why YOU don't leave comments. No email address required.

F - R- Double E - The New "Four Letter Word"

~

In the world of writing and ebook marketing, has the word FREE become a new four letter word? Warping our price expectations as readers, and cheapening our work as authors? I can say for myself, this free thing is turning into a double edged sword. Maybe.
So what had happened was . . .
I recently read two FANTASTIC books by Adrienne Thompson. Enjoyed them immensely. (Click the image to the right to peruse her 5-star reviews) Both were free downloads that I'd obtained a few months back when she ran a campaign. Now as much as I enjoyed her work, and have no reservations of reading her third title, guess what was stopping me? You guessed it - it wasn't free.

So I know what you're thinking - it had to be priced at almost a million dollars since I was hesitant about purchasing it. Of course not. It was a measly $1.99.  Far less than the price of a cuppa coffee, and would last longer too!  Not to mention more enjoyable. And I just can't make it myself at home.

I had to slap myself when I realized why I wasn't tapping the "1-Click" purchase button. What is wrong with me for thinking like that? I was slow to spend 2 bucks on a book that I KNOW I will enjoy?  Shame on me! Once I had this epiphany, I did PURCHASE Adrienne's third title. And guess what? It didn't break the bank, or send my home in foreclosure. I still have enough to get a cup of expensive coffee if I want to . . . or buy another book by another great author.

I don't know about this FREE thing . . . is it doing more damage than good? Is it turning us into Kindle Hoarders?  Free just might be the new four-letter word in town.

I think I'll go wash my mouth out with soap.

K is for Knees (A-Z Blogging Challenge)

~

Continuing my journey on the A-Z blogging challenge . . .

K is for Knees . . . as in oh my aching!!!!!

I realize I am not in my twenties anymore, regardless of how young I look (so I'm told) but Geez Louise my Knees! They feel every bit of my age (which is well beyond 20...well!).  But aching knees? I'm not really that old, am I?

I'm trying to exercise (thus my new found dance classes) as I could stand to lose 40lbs, but lawdy!  These granny knees can't take it! This is a picture of me in October 2011. Don't I look like my knees should work just fine?  I'm just saying!

Maybe it's time for me to face the music. I'm not as young as I want to think I am. As a matter of fact, my 26-year old is expecting a baby this summer, which will officially put me in Granny status. Maybe my knees know this and feel like they are acting accordingly.

Somebody bring me a GOOD BOOK and rocking chair! Sigh!

I is for Ignore and Invite (A-Z Blogging Challenge)

~

Okay - so I'm behind (again) on the A-Z blogging challenge. Today I should be on L, but where am I? on the letter I. So in an effort to catch up, here it goes.

I is for Ignore. As in ignore my soon approaching May 5th deadline to have my manuscript turned in. I know I should give attention to it, but remember my E is for Empty day?  Well my mind is still empty about this story. Can't come up with a single thing. So I guess it's easy to act like I don't see that huge deadline running towards me at breakneck speed and play with my friends on Facebook (F is for Fake Facebook Friends) instead.

In the meantime I is also for Invite!  I invite you download a FREE copy of Bubblin' Brown Sugar - an anthology of love stories!  Free at Amazon through April 13, 2012.  Be sure to click "like" on the book's page right before you download it!

Share and tweet this free invite!

G is for Get it Together (A-Z Blogging Challenge)

~
Day 7 of the A-Z Blogging Challenge!

G is for Get it Together...which I'm trying to do...kinda. You see, I just started dancing with this Dance Company last week, not that I am awesomely talented in dance, but because I've always liked the performing arts, knew that the group would stretch the bit of skill that I do have, and I've got quite a few pounds of "extra" to get rid of.  I take five classes a week in all, with the most skill stretching one being four hours long.

So far, the classes have been wonderfully challenging, and I always leave the studio completely drenched in sweat, exhausted and sore. I've had to buy a knee brace and rub something called Tiger Balm into my joints, but I like it. As a matter of fact, I love it. So the part that I need to get it together in is...after I finish my 2-4 hour sessions, I feel like I DESERVE to eat any thing I want. I feel like I deserve a candy bar, an ice cream cone or that Chick-Fila sandwich and large sweet tea. I feel like it won't do any damage at all after I've left my sweat on the dance floor. I don't want a Gatorade or a protein bar for a reward.  M&Ms appeal to me so much more. Or a honey bun covered in thick white icing. Mmmmm!

I know it's not right to think that way. That's why I've got to get it together and start toting apples and trail mix in my dance bag.  Especially if I plan to dance these pounds away.

Get it together Kimberly; get it together!

F is for Fake Facebook Friends (A-Z Challenge)

Keeping up with the A-Z Blogging Challenge!

F is for Fake Facebook Friends.
I have 3,415 "Friends" on Facebook.
Don't be impressed. I probably only really know 10% of that number.
And then only 10% of those actually engage with me.

And yes - I post interesting , funny , thought provoking, motivating, inspiring, personal things...and photos...and quotes.  I just don't play games and grow vegetables. I like other people's status posts, and comment on their baby pictures and support their work and share their stuff. Seriously - I do!

You would think with that many friends, I would have no problem getting likes, free ebook downloads, book sales, reviews, comments and blog visits right? As my aunties use to say some years ago "Chile please!" Not even close.

3,415 friends? Yeah right. Who am I fooling? Only myself and maybe 90% of my Facebook Friends. But that number sure looks good!

Hey! Since you're here, be a friend and like my Facebook Page!  Just click HERE!  Or the least you can do is leave a comment below.  :-)

D is for Deadlines (A-Z Challenge)

~

This is my 4th post as a participant in the A-Z Blogging Challenge, and brings me current! Yippee!

Anyway. . . D is for Deadlines. I have a love/hate relationship with deadlines, or better said I have a hate/love relationship.  I hate them, but I so love them! While some people strive to get things done far before the deadline, when it comes to writing, I find my less to be less motivated the further the due date. It's only when the deadline puts me in panic mode that something kicks in and allows me to be at my most creative point.

Wait . . . it's not just with writing, it's in other areas too. Hmm.  That almost makes me a procrastinator doesn't it. I don't like that word being linked to my name. I shouldn't be faulted though, if a deadline is my inspiration should I? I mean as long as the job gets done . . . that's what really counts. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

So, now that I am 30 days away from having to turn in my the manuscript for my next novel, I suppose I should   get started.

30 days and counting!

C is for Creative Catch Up! (A-Z Challenge)

Today is day 4 of the A-Z blogging challenge and I should be blogging on the letter D, however I am a day behind, so C is Catch Up, which I am desperately trying to do.  Well maybe not desperately . . . actually, I've been kind of chillin', so C is for Chillin' too. Which I need to stop doing and move on to D is Desperate.

I've been on chill mode because my creative flow has been a little stagnant lately. I just haven't been able to thinking of anything funny, witty, interesting, crazy, intriguing, engaging to write about. Not just for my blog - but also for my next novel . . . which is due in 30 days.

Yeah, C is definitely for Creative Catch up, and yes, I'm getting pretty desperate. But I'm going to get it together. Maybe you can help - please share your strategies on how you get your creative juices flowing when you get stuck.

My Very Selfish Thanksgiving Day

I spent today, Thanksgiving 2011 at home today. No company, no turkey, no goodies, cakes and pies. No houseful of family and tons of games to play. Just me. And Davion.

It sounds pretty lame, but before you feel sorry for me and say, "Aww! You could have come over my house," please know that I spent the day just how I wanted to. I love lounging around in my pajamas with my laptop and a hot cup of tea or apple cider.  And I enjoy being at home more than any other place I can think of.  In addition, I wasn't feeling really well today, so I opted out of the 3.5 hour drive to my mother-in-laws with my husband. My son's are traveling this year, visiting friends out-of-state, and my own mom, went to visit her mom several hours away.

I'm trying to be more conscience of what I put in my mouth, so I was fine with not having the traditional Thanksgiving Day meal. I need to be more responsible about my eating choices, and start turning down the mac and cheese, yams with pecans, yeast rolls, stuffing, gravy . . . all that.  Sounds delicious, but I have to just say no. I did make some pancakes this morning, and prepared a nutritious (and quite normal) dinner for Davion.

Now it's pretty much the end of a perfect day for me, and I was just flipping through the news and caught a story of an organization that served meals today. Suddenly I realized how selfish I've been. I could have spent my day in a much better way. Instead of just lounging around the house piddling in my PJs, I could have found somewhere to serve. I could have pulled on a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt, found a soup kitchen and fixed some plates. I could have helped a mom seat her children and maybe even helped feed a few.

Man - what a wasted day! Next year - I'm serving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families. How did you spend your Thanksgiving?
Post your comments (and what you ate!) below! :-)

Soothing the Savage Beast in Your Man. . . K Matthews

It all started because Davion (who is 11) made the comment that he thought James Evans, the father figure from the 1970s sit-com Good Times was mean. When asked why, he stated that James was always yelling - on every show, and "every five minutes" he stated.  This started a lively discussion between myself, my husband Clay, my brother Karlton and his wife Krishna, who all grew up during the popularity of the show.

Clay commented that he didn't believe James was mean, but saw him as a provider and protector of his family, facing the hard economic and sociological barriers that black men faced during that decade. He expressed that these factors contributed to what I described as unfavorable behavior.

In my opinion, James often times took his frustrations out on his family. Several times his entrance onto the show was coming into his his home and slamming the door, and when greeted by the people that loved him the most, his response was almost always negative. He often threatened to take his belt off to manage the kids, and several times had Florida nervously apprehensive of discussing some important details of the day with him.

Karlton's view was interesting as well and close to mine, feeling that his disciplinarian role greatly overshadowed any other emotion or action.  He also brought up that James only barked at the outsiders who threatened his family, but never seemed to take true action . . . but it was a different story with his kids. Ironically - we had just watched the episode when Sweet Daddy Williams, in full pimp attire, barraged his way into the Evans home, much to James' and Florida's disapproval to offer J.J. a one-man art show.  Karlton mentioned instead of James taking a stand to protect his family, he barked then gave in.

To Karlton's point, watch the clip below, and see how James reacts to J.J. regarding Sweet Daddy, then watch how James reacts when Sweet Daddy and his henchmen walk into HIS home - HIS space - HIS territory.

Good Times Minisode - Sweet Daddy Williams by Crackletelevision

Hmm . . . Interesting indeed. Granted this is an edited a clip - but we did watch the whole episode; not much is missing.

Also in this episode, Sweet Daddy "gifted" the Evans with a beer-filled refrigerator assumed acquired by illegal means, before James had come home from work. Immediately, Florida began wringing her hands, wondering how she was going to tell James. In true James Evans fashion - he came home, angry and frustrated from something that happened at work, and slammed the door, and when Florida attempted to tell him about it, he yelled something like "I don't wanna hear nothing about no refrigerator!"

Krishna's thoughts were that James loved and supported his family, and was a hard-working man. She agreed with Clay that there were several understandable factors that attributed to James' often disgruntled attitude. Which I am not denying. Then she said in regards to Florida,  "A woman needs to know how to soothe the savage beast in her man. She should have known better to approach him when she saw that he was upset," meaning the slammed door.  Hmm.  I'm all for encouraging your hard working man and all that, and I'm not saying that James didn't love his family - but my thing is, did he have to come home as a beast almost every single night?

Then I found this book today just rummaging around online. Maybe Florida should have read it.  What is your opinion of James Evans?

Being Prepared vs. Being Scared

With Hurricane Irene making her approach to my part of the nation and the state, people are naturally apprehensive and fearful. None of us want to suffer at the hands of disaster, and it's always wise to be wise in terms of being prepared. I have water, ice, and a few days of food. I've cleaned up, and done the laundry to make sure we have clean clothes for the next several days. My vehicle has gas in it, I've charged my laptop and other communication devices, and have back up chargers in my vehicle. And if I need to leave (evacuate) I will use wisdom and do that too.

I have my windows open, at least for right now, to allow some fresh air into my home that has been locked up and managed by central air conditioning all summer. Once it starts raining, I'll get up and close the windows like someone who not only has common sense, but knows how to use it.

I'm going to sleep peacefully tonight, rather than in fear of this pending storm, because I know that I am safe in His arms!  After all, being prepared and being scared are two different things.

Stripped and Screwed!

I'm taking a break from Spoonin' today, and talking about something else -  a topic I hardly ever (if ever) breach. But this is my own personal story of how I found myself stripped and screwed last night. Oh the things that can happen after midnight!

I just had a tenant to move out of my townhouse, and was there trying to work on a small list of repairs that I felt I could take on myself, one of those being changing the locks. I mean you just never know how many key copies have been produced and handed out across town. Pretty easy project right? That was until four screws, three in the door jamb plate, and one in the door became stripped. If you have never experienced trying to remove a 3-4" inch stripped screw, let me tell you, it's the worse. What should have taken twenty minutes turned into more than four hours as one at a time, with the help of a power drill, we were facing four stripped screws, which were now half in-half out the door jamb refusing to budge in either direction. At this point the door couldn't be closed or locked.

We twisted, we pried, we plier-ed, we wrenched.
We took a break, we stared, we sighed, we Googled.
We tried a flat rubber band,  we called Lowe's, we called Home Depot, we bought a "Grab It" extractor tool. But it was all too no avail.  Those screws really loved that door frame.

"We might have to call a locksmith" Drea sighed in defeat.

"At this time of night? Un-uh! That's going to be an instant $100 fee, on top of labor." I had a better idea.

Drea laughed at me when I pulled a small bottle of olive oil out of the refrigerator - the only thing in there, placed there by Davion just the day before. Because the oil was cold, it was cloudy looking, not clear like olive oil usually is.

"What are you gonna do with that frozen oil Ma?" Drea asked laughing. "I'm about to take a picture and tweet this!"

"Go ahead, but these screws are about to come out of here!" I answered.

I took the oil, clouded or not, and doused it on those screws and began to pray, commanding those screws to come out of the door in Jesus' name, and asked the Lord for help. Seriously. I did.  It was now after midnight and I couldn't shut the front door to my house.

Well the Lord heard my cry.  About fifteen minutes later, lo and behold, a Virginia Dominion Power truck rolled up and stopped just a few feet from my front door. It had to be about 12:45am. Seeing Drea standing in the doorway, still wrestling with the stubborn metal, the technician approached to let us know he had to shut the power down for about 3-5 minutes.

Drea simply said "Okay", but I said,

"Can you please help me get these stripped screws out?" (Short version.)

Do y'all know, that young man, Jeremy Sigmund is his name, went to his truck, brought back a couple of tools and wrenched out all four of those screws, doing three of them before he even started his assigned Virginia Power task?  It took him about twenty-five minutes to work out the first three. He left for about ten minutes to do what ever it was Virginia Power was paying him for, then came back for about ten minutes more and removed the final screw.

I thanked him profusely, and he smiled and said, "No problem - y'all have a good night."

Before I closed my eyes at 4am this morning, I stopped by the Virginia Dominion Power website to share this experience with who ever gets customer feedback emails there, and I pray that they recognize and reward him greatly for his outstanding service and kindness.

As for the clouded oil, of course it cleared up once it became room temperature. I saw Drea with it later, applying it on something else when he got frustrated with trying to complete another task!  How's that for funny tweets?

Thank God that He hears our prayers when we're at our wit's end, stripped and screwed - figuratively and literally!

Having Lunch with Cee Lo Green

It's been a long and busy journey to the release of Spoonin', and I'm about social networked OUT! So I'm taking the day off...kinda. Instead of posting on Facebook and managing tweets, I'm going to:

  • Call Carl Weber so we can talk about my book tour
  • Chat with Cas Sigers about me going on the Mo'Nique show
  • Connect with Terri Vaughn about Bubblin' Brown Sugar
  • Text Wendy Williams who is also contributing
  • Talk with Samuel Hair about his next book
  • Get with Tomesia Ingram on my marketing strategies
  • Start reading Mama Ruby by Mary Monroe
  • And maybe, have lunch with Cee Lo Green.  Just maybe. If I can find a gap in my day.  Okay, maybe that part is just in my imagination.

Anyway, while I'm away, please carry on like normal.  You know - buy a copy of Spoonin, sign up for my monthly newsletter, like my facebook page, follow me on twitter, comment on my posts . . . yeah all that stuff.

See you here on June 2nd where I will be featuring another fabulous author.

That Cuddly, Kissy, Mushy Stuff!

I've got love on my mind. You know - that cuddly, kissy, huggy mushy love that makes you want to stay in bed on a Sunday morning and just listen to jazz all day instead of going to church.
The kind of that makes you try to sing like Jill Scott - "Whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever . . . whatever baby"
Why do I have love on my mind? Because my new book Spoonin' releases in about 4 more weeks!  With that being said - what's your favorite Spoonin' song? Songs about cheaters don't count - they turn my stomach! See example below!

"Morning . . . you got to go home to meet your WIIIIIIFFFE, Wife! I never meant to hurt her . . . (yeah right) . . . as we slept the night away . . . as we lay."  She ought to be shamed!

I'm talking about the kind of song you really don't care if the neighbor's house is burning down, and the kids are making too much noise but it's all good, and it's almost two o'clock in the afternoon and you haven't gotten a single thing accomplished other than laying in bed with your boo or beau.

I'm in search of five REALLY GOOD Spoonin' songs.  Waiting to hear from you!

Now Was That Really Necessary??

A couple of days ago, someone gave me a picture of myself from about 4-5 years ago. It was a simple photo of me standing with her and two other ladies.
She grinned as she gave it to me, saying "Remember this?"
"Not really," I said, shrugging at the not-so-memorable shot.
She then found it necessary to add the comment "Girl, that's when you were little!"
Did she really need to say that? Like I was completely unaware that I couldn't fit those pants anymore. Or the shirt.
No - I didn't hit her. I didn't roll my eyes, or crumple up the picture. As a matter of fact, I don't remember commenting at all. After all, I still love the me that I am, big or small - short or tall.

None-the-less, there are some very specific reasons why I've picked up - and haven't been able to drop the (eh-hem) few extra pounds I've put on. But I've concluded that it's definitely not my fault. Wanna here them? Here they go.

Suppose Love Ain't Enough?

Love is said to conquer all.

If a man tells his wife that he loves her, then sends her crashing to the floor with a blow to the face so powerful that it shatters her cheek bone, would you question his love her her?

If he apologizes with sincerity in his heart, tears in his eyes and flowers in his hand; should her love for him outweigh her pain, fear and bruises?

Suppose he really does love her . . . and she loves him. But she knows she's not safe. So despite the emotions of her heart, she leaves him.

He's shocked. He's crushed. He's disappointed. He's confused. And he misses his wife. So he calls her.

"I love you. I can't believe you left me...that really hurt."

"I love you too," she says. "But I can't believe you hit me - that really hurt."

"If you loved me, you wouldn't have left me," he says.

"If you loved me, you wouldn't have hit me," she counters.

"I said I was sorry, but you still left," he says, still unable to get his head around her sudden absence. "If you loved me, you would have stayed here and we could have worked through this. But you didn't. You left me."

She does love him. But it's not about love at this point . . . is it?

Is love enough? Should she return to prove her love and give love a chance to conquer all?

My Friday Date at Q Barbeque

Here in Hampton Roads, the temperature on Friday was sunny and wonderfully warm at 77+ degrees - perfect weather for a date. So Clay and I decided to do just that, go on a date (which we do quite often by the way).

A date for us typically consists of us arriving in separate cars at an agreed upon public location - usually a restaurant, and then pretending to have known each other for just a short while, or maybe not even know each other at all. That makes for great conversation, not to mention it's fun.

Clay always asks if I am seeing anyone, and I always tell him, that's none of his business. Then I conspicuously look at his ring finger and ask him,

"So . . . where's your wife? You didn't tell me you were married."

He almost always says, "My wife is out on a date somewhere."

The conversation from there can get very interesting (different blog for a different day).
Anyway - we like to try new places to eat . . . I take that back, I like to try new places to eat, and I generally pick the place. My choice this time was Q Barbeque located in Peninsula Town Center. Not only had we not eaten there before, but they offer sidewalk dining, which in my opinion, outdoor dining is so beautiful for a date when it's warm.

Now the restaurant's logo, fashioned after a pig's snout, would make you think they only served pork barbeque, but that's not the case, They also serve chicken, and brisket. Not that I don't eat (and enjoy I might add) pork.  Because I do. Yeah. Bacon, pepperoni, glazed ham, all of that. I'm just not a big fan of pork barbeque. I prefer chicken.

(Sidenote to anti-pork eaters - no need to leave a slew of comments about your views on swine. I respect your decision.)

They offer a bunch of sides - baked beans, cole slaw, collard greens, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, corn pudding, hush puppies, french fries, onion rings and something called 'pineapple hot dish." Hmmm.  Choices, choices.  I look at Clay; he looks at me. We often try to order different things so we can taste each other's food. "What are you gonna get," I ask. He grins his perpetual grin and shrugs. No help at all.

"Is the macaroni and cheese baked?" I ask the young lady patiently waiting for us to make a decision on a meat and two sides. Luckily, there was no line. She says no. "It's like Kraft?????" I ask aghast.  She tries to explain to me what their Mac and Cheese is like, but then surprises me by saying,

"Would you like a sample?" You all know the answer to that. She offers me a tiny cup and spoon filled with creamy, very pale yellow noodles. It wasn't baked, glued together with globs of extra sharp cheddar cheese, or filled with textured baked eggs but I'm impressed; it's quite tasty! (Sidenote number two, if you do make super cheesy glued together, eggy mac and cheese, I eat that too so don't get offended okay?) I end up choosing the mac and cheese.

My second side is the Pineapple Hot Dish. It just sounds so interesting, how could I not try it? I mean, what's not to like about hot pineapples, right? Clay chooses the pork barbeque, with corn pudding and greens. We didn't have a baby sitter, so Davion was with us, (stifling our grown-folks-on-a-date conversation, no doubt) and selects the chicken (after he gets vetoed on chicken fingers, and then a hot dog . . . what is he thinking??) with onion rings, (I should have vetoed those too!) and got a drink and cookie with his meal.  The tab for the three of us is $27, including drinks.

Surprisingly Q Barbeque gives you a number and brings your order to your table, so we go outside and sit under the sun, shielded from its direct heat by a large umbrella. Within five minutes, a young lady brings us our dinner on black plastic plates nestled in brown paper, and cradled in plate holders.  The meat looks well cooked but un-barbequed (in my mind, it was supposed to be orange or burgundy with sauce), and the sides are served in small black cups that don't really look like much at all. The portions look tiny, which  makes Clay raise his eyebrows, give a slight sigh, and shake his head. He extends his hands towards me and Davion, prompting us to join hands so that together we can thank God for the meal before us and the opportunity to enjoy another meal as a family. Then we eat.

The first thing I do, is grab my choice of barbeque sauce, which conveniently sits on the table in a squeeze bottle. There are three to choose from. Original, Sa-weet, and Hot-alizing. I like sweet stuff, (thus the tummy) so I choose Sa-weet, while Clay lifts a forkful of greens to his mouth.

"Mmm!" he comments in pleasant surprise. "You will like these." He knows that collard greens are way low on my list of food favorites, but is certain that I will enjoy these large leaves of deeply green veggies  (not the kind that are shredded up into bits and swimming in greens juice.) and sprinkled with bits of red pepper. He forks me up some and feeds it to me. I have to admit - they are good! Full of flavor and slightly sweet. The taste is definitely unique. I ask for a second mouthful, which with greens, I'd never do!

Then I try my chicken. It's delicious, well cooked and well seasoned. With a full mouth, I nod in approval and offer some to Clay. He nods too, but then offers me a sample of his pork barbeque which he has enhanced with the Original sauce. OMGoodness!!  That meat was soooooooo tender and succulent it almost makes me look at my chicken in disdain, and the original sauce was divine; better than the Sa-weet. I immediately add some Original sauce to my chicken.

It's official, we are enjoying our meal!

Next I try the Pineapple Hot Dish. Hmm.  My best description would be a hot pineapple upside down cake on the mushy side, despite its inviting brown crust. :-/  It wasn't terrible, but I don't know that I'd try it a second time. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't so soft inside. Should have sampled it first. However, Clay thought better of it than I did.

I stick my fork into Clay's corn pudding, and this time a Campbell's Soup expression comes forth. The corn pudding was THE BOMB! I thought my Aunt Patti made some fantastic corn pudding, but now I have two favorites! I still love Patti's, but this one has a rich and kind of meaty flavor infused along with the sweetness (I told y'all I like sweet) that made it deliciously unique. I dig in for more while my feet flutter beneath the table.

Clay and I are making so many approval moans and nods, Davion decides he wants to be apart of the sampling so he offers us onion rings. They are battered, not breaded, which is my favorite way to enjoy them. They are browned just right, crisp and again delicious. Better than Sonic's and Hardee's. Two thumbs up.

Now getting back to the portion sizes. Again, they were not huge and falling over the plate, and although we thought the cups were rather small, there was more than enough for us to enjoy the servings, even with us sharing. I ended up trading half my pineapple hot dish for half of Clay's corn pudding, and had to make myself finish my mac and cheese which I immensely enjoyed. I could only eat half the chicken on my plate (not because it wasn't good, but I am not a huge eater). We left the table comfortably full (not miserably stuffed) and satisfied.

"Good choice babe," Clay says. Had we been pretending to not know each other, he wouldn't have gotten away with that 'babe' comment.

As for the rest of our date - who cares? I'm thinking about going back to Q Barbeque for Sunday dinner!

My Birthday Report Card!

Well it's October 14th - also known as my birthday! I am thankful to God for granting me his constant love, mercy and grace, and allowing me to complete another year and live another day. I'm overwhelmed by the more than 200 birthday greetings I've received so far today, and the day is just getting underway!

Every year during my birthday season, I take some time to just reflect over my past years' journey, with the intent of tracking my success, recognizing my improvements, and identifying areas that could stand to be improved. Over the past ten years that I've done this, I've always found myself to be in a better position in some areas, while in others not so much.

Each year, I'm challenged to review these things:

My Priorities:
~ Where and how I spend my time?
~ Where and how I spend my money?

My Investments:
~ What investments am I making in myself?
~ Am I investing enough into myself?
~ What investments do I make in other people?
~ What are the returns on my investments?
~ Am I sowing in unproductive fields?

My Goals:
~ What goals am I working towards?
~ Do I need to change or realign my goals?
~ What is distracting me from reaching my goals?
     ~ Is my focus off?

My Character:
~ What are my character flaws?
~ How does my character need to be developed?
~ What does my character lack?

While I am grateful for the things I've accomplished, the person I am, and how far I've come just surviving the waves of life, If I'm honest with myself, I would have to sing the old Gospel song that says "Please be patient with me; God is not through with me yet!" I have to admit, sometimes my yearly report card doesn't look so great. But I thank God that he's giving me at least one more day to work on pulling my grades up.

Thanks for sharing my birthday with me!

The Body Magic Challenge!

Okay everyone - I am making it public that I am taking the Ardyss Body Magic Challenge!!

After hearing the excitement of Arydyss Distributor Sylvia Hawkins of what this Body Magic garment could do, and actually SEEING visible results on her which were VERY convincing (I've seen her go from a 10 to a six in about two months), I decided to try this product.

What is it? It is a garment that promises to reshape your trouble areas, and help you lose inches and pounds. It promises that you will instantly "drop" 2-3 dress sizes in 10 minutes or less (the time it takes to get in the garment the first time). It promises to lift your behind, plump your boobs, smooth your rolls, flatten your belly, and give you an hour glass figure.

Since I've married Mr. Hooker, I've put on a pound or two or twenty, so I could use a little help with EVERYTHING in the above paragraph - so I said - what the hey - let me try it. I will try almost anything once (excluded are escargo, cow brain tacos, smoking, illegal drugs, and satanism).

Anyway - so I put this Body Magic garment on - and just like *SNAP* that - my belly was smooth and flat, my waist was whittled and "the ladies" were plumped! The garment was tight - but it was a GREAT tight. It felt good!!! It felt great to walk in it and move in it. Instantly, I felt sexier. Seriously!!

I put my clothes back on, which had just been a pair of sweats and a sweatshirt. Nothing that would show off my figure. I left from my fitting and had to stop by a store, where I just happened to pass by a mirror and when I glanced at my reflection, the VERY first thing I noticed was my rump was looking like *PA-DOW!!!!* It was popped out like WHOA! I would have done a double take, but it would have been WAY too obvious, but I DID see it! When I got home - you KNOW I spent some time in the mirror!

Today was day two and I wore it out, where I ran into a friend. The friend said - "Have you been working out?"
I shrugged it off. "I try," I said, answering honestly.
"It's working!" she commented walking off.
"Thanks," I shrugged, but inside, I was gloating knowing that it was the magic of Body Magic.

Later in the evening another friend came over for a bridal shower I was hosting and IMMEDIATELY noticed the difference in my figure! Another Body Magic smile!

Now a couple people have said - oh it's just an illusion - when you take it off, you are still the same you as before. Maybe so, but what are wigs, weave and make up?? What are micro braids? What is a push up bra?? How about control top panty hose acrylic nails and lash extentions??

Whether is fake hair or Body Magic - We all want to look and feel great! And today . . . in a simple pair of jeans and a fitted Tee - and my natural hair - I looked and felt absolutley incredible!
