Amazon's Staying on My Good Side with "Look Inside"

This morning, after checking my Amazon sales stats, I wanted to do a bit of ranting about my experiences, particularly with the KDP Select Program. All of us Indie Authors have tried it right? Or at least read about it  . . . you know, you enter your title into the program, run a free promo campaign, experience thousands of downloads followed by increased sales in the few days following.

Well just when I was going to spill the beans on MY specific results, Amazon went and did something I wasn't expecting and I'm not quite sure why they did it.

What did they do, you ask? They added the "Look Inside" feature to Bubblin' Brown Sugar!

I know what you might be thinking . . .So what?
So . . . I've had more sales THIS MORNING than I've had in . . . well I don't want to say, since Amazon has changed my mind from ranting - or better said, venting about my lackluster KDP Select results. Not to mention my non-functioning Kindle (click here for that story).

Yay!!  I'm excited! Now potential readers don't have to download a sample - they can just "look inside," and then make a (favorable) purchasing decision. F is for Fake Facebook Friends.
I have 3,415 "Friends" on Facebook.
Don't be impressed. I probably only really know 10% of that number.
And then only 10% of those actually engage with me.

And yes - I post interesting , funny , thought provoking, motivating, inspiring, personal things...and photos...and quotes.  I just don't play games and grow vegetables. I like other people's status posts, and comment on their baby pictures and support their work and share their stuff. Seriously - I do!

You would think with that many friends, I would have no problem getting likes, free ebook downloads, book sales, reviews, comments and blog visits right? As my aunties use to say some years ago "Chile please!" Not even close.

3,415 friends? Yeah right. Who am I fooling? Only myself and maybe 90% of my Facebook Friends. But that number sure looks good!

E is for Everything, Empty and Elusive (A-Z Challenge)

It's day 5 of the A-Z Blogging challenge - also known as day E. So here it goes.

E is for Everything, as in it's going to take everything within me to get my next novel done on time. 

E is also for Empty, because I'm empty of ideas. There's nothing in my head right now for book. Nothing. No names, no plots, no scenes . . . completely empty. 

E is for Elusive. Authors know that sometimes characters write themselves. They direct your fingers and tell you what they want to happen to them (and sometimes to others). But my non-existent characters are being completely elusive. 

It's a bit chilly outside today, so I think I will make me a cup of hot chocolate, prop my feet up, read a few blogs posts from others that are participating in the blog challenge, and see if I can get some inspiration from it.  In the meantime, here is where you can find my other A-Z posts:

5 Reasons I Love the Kindle - K Matthews

Simply to keep up with the Jones, I bought myself a Kindle for Mother's Day back in May.  I had to have one; I was tired of all my author friends talking about them and me having to listen with kind of a blank stare, not to mention I needed to keep up with the industry. So, yeah - when I saw that Amazon had one for $114,  (and now has one for $79) my eyes popped open like Jack coming out of the box and I did the impulsive "One-Click" order.

Right away I became excited. I couldn't wait to get it.  I even made up a little song about it; wanna here it? Here it goes:   (eh-eh hem!)

So now that I've had it for 6 months, I'll share with you why it's a keeper - from a reader's point of view.

1. It remembers where I left off reading, and takes me there when I turn it on.  No flipping through pages (not that flipping through pages was so unbearable.)

2. I can buy a new book at the crack of dawn while I'm still in my pajamas and without brushing my teeth. I generally don't buy books the moment I open my eyes though.  I mean, Facebook has got that slot on lock!

3. I get the books just a few seconds beyond instantly. My days of making up Nanny-Nanny Boo Boo songs to fill in my wait time are over.  Before I can get through the first line my book is in my hand.

4. It fits into my purse without stretching it or tearing the handles off. It's pretty thin, even in the case. Imagine 100(or more) books, including my Bible (which I forgot to take my physical one with me to church on Sunday) all in my purse at one time.  On the Kindle - they weigh less than my receipt-and-rewards-card-filled wallet. 

5.  There's no such thing as loaning out a book and never seeing it again. I'm like the little boy in the Dorito's commercial "Keep your hands off my momma, and keep your hands off my Kindle." It does have a way to let you "loan" out books you download though - I've just not had the need to do so yet.

Now the thing that I DON'T like most about the Kindle is - every time I look at my banking transactions, there is always money being deducted for new purchases! Almost every day, there are few dollars going into Kindle LaLa Land. $.99 here, $2.99 there . . . Sheesh!

And oh yeah!  One more think I love about Kindle - my newest book Spoonin' can be downloaded to it!  It's so cool seeing my book on that screen! Uh...yes I did.  I did buy a copy of my own book for my Kindle. You should buy a copy too.  Kindle or hardcopy.  It's easy. Do it now - just click here.
