WriteOrDie.Com - It Works!

My next novel is due to my publisher on the 15th of this month, and I have really been struggling with writer's block because I've been at a huge creativity block. As an author, I can make excuses all day, but the reality of it is, one day turns into the next and my deadline is approaching faster than a rabbit running from a fox.
So I decided to really take a go at WriteOrDie.com.  Yeah, I've used it before, but not seriously. This time it's serious.  I went a step further than using the online tool, although the online tool is free and  fantastically useful - and paid the ten dollars to download the app on my laptop. Why? Because I don't have to be online to use it. Not being online means no Facebook notification indicators on the next tab to suck my time away. You know what happens when you see that little number beside the Facebook favicon; you absolutely have to go see who commented on what. Huge time suck.

Anyway - today has been the greatest productivity day I've had in a long time!  I set the parameters of how I wanted WriteOrDie to govern and measure me. My choice was a thirty minute session and a thousand words. Once the clock starts ticking, you don't have time to think about Facebook, email, Amazon rankings or other distractions. You're watching that clock drop, and you're watching that word count increase.  And if you take too long, rattling your fingers on the keyboard trying to think of what you're going to type next, the screen gradually turns from bright pink red to remind you to get going!

Well guess what? Within thirty minutes, I met my goal, and the app even played celebratory music - once when I met the word goal, and again when I met the time goal. SUCCESS!

With this tool at my fingertips, I feel so much better about meeting my goal on time.
Thanks WriteOrDie.com!
