I listened to Jill Scott's new song "Shame" this morning, and I had a couple of thoughts. Great music, nice jam, I could imagine it being bumped and grooved to from the radio as I drive around in my vehicle this summer, windows and sun roof open, fly shades, tight cut, groomed brows, glossed lips . . . all that. BUT - Jill seems to be trying to make a man aware how magnificent she is and just how much he is missing by passing her over.
"It's a shame - you missing out on a good thang . . . "
Hmmm . . . Something is wrong with that campaign to me. While I'm not single, I wouldn't want anyone who could not see my worth on their own. I wouldn't want anyone who had to be convinced of my value, my magnificence. I wouldn't want anyone who I had to talk them into being interested in and wanting me.
She tells him she's the one he really wants but he can't see it and how shes tried and tried to make him understand that. She tells him she has it all together, she can stand on her own, she's magnificent, she's a queen on the throne, and it's a shame that he can't see that. If you have to do all that to finally get him to come around to being remotely interested, you are simply trying to MAKE him "The One." You should never have to back someone in a corner and nearly force them to accept and or love you.
Which is why I loved this video:
